Online Auction Sites: Buyer Beware

Merchants We Trust

If you’re buying new wheels . . . BEWARE THE ONLINE AUTION SITES.Beware The Online Auction

Here’s Why.

Online auction fraud is one of the most commonly reported cases of Internet fraud reported to the Federal Trade Commission each year.

Buyers who have received damaged products, misrepresented products or no product make most of these reports; however, some have had credit cards or bank accounts compromised.

Over the years, we’ve received a TON of email asking us for help beccase they’ve been shafted buying rims from an auction site.

Here’s a few examples of wha we’ve seen:

  • Buying a particular brand of wheel and receiving something completely different.
When they email the so-called contact, they get ignored enogh that they finally give up ( which is what the seller wants ).
  • People paying for brand new wheels and receiving “old used” “rusty”.
  • Paying for “brand new” rims and receiving “damaged” “bent”.
  • People who buy a particular “size” wheel and receive a size that doesn’t fit they’re vehicle.
  • People paying outrageous “shipping charges” for wheel that they bought at a so-called “hot price”.
  • People who have paid for brand name wheels and received cheap knock-offs or fakes.

My advice to you . . . don’t gamble your hard-earned money buying rims from an auction site (unless you have enough that you can afford to just throw it away). It’s just not worth the risk.

Remember . . . if it sound too good to be true, it usually is.

Buy your new wheels from a reputable retail store or even better, from a high quality online merchant.

One last thought . . . forget about a “warranty” or “guarantee” on wheels purchased at an auction site. You just don’t have one regardless of what it says at the auction. All you’ll get in reply to your request to honor a warranty is a great big belly laugh.
